*pnish*-play-pimping
Yuletide will soon be upon us, and thus I must pimp my newest and tiniest fandom: plays performed by the Japaense dance & theater group *pnish*.

Follow me under the cut for pictures, quick summarizes and other links!

For those who don't know, *pnish* is a dance & theater group with 4 members; Sano "Leader" Daiki, Moriyama Eiji, Washio Noboru and Tsuchiya "Tuti" Yuuichi.

Together they've performed some of the funniest plays I've seen in quite a while - and there's plenty of drama and action to go around as well (not to mention the dancing). If you don't have the means to get their DVDs all the way from Japan, their shows are all up on youtube - and other places, if you look really hard.

If you haven't seen anything by them, here are some shows that I recommend:

Maharaja Mode

The festival of Durga Purja approaches; the time of year when the maharajah Vishnu asks the gods to bless the country with peace and prosperity. But this year a sinister trader has come to wreck havoc upon the land. With Vishnu possessed by an evil spirit, it's up to his younger brother Shiva, Shiva's blind bodyguard Pasupata and the festival's lead entertainer Nataraja to protect the tempel guardian Parvati, who holds a very important key. And in the middle of all this, we have a pair of oblivious actors and a very confused Son Goku, who just wants to go home.
(The opening dance, in all its glory. This show has been fansubbed, though not by me. For more info, send me a pm - the fansubbers have requested that no direct links be put up on private journals.)

Panic Café

Two criminals, one reporter, one camera man and one not to clever café worker. Chaos is about to happen.
(Sadly I haven't been able to find a summary of this.)

Samurai Mode

Abandoned by his masters after an attack on their home, the samurai Garakusha is tricked by the enemy's younger brother to take revenge. But all is not as it seems...
(Helpful report here.)

Secret Box

Haru, Azuma, Ricchi and Taji are four guys who work for a small 'odd-job'-service called Secrets, run by a woman named Momose. They also have superpowers; Haru gets flashes of the future, Azuma can read the mind of anyone he touches, Ricchi is occasionally indestructible and Taji has telekinesis a few times a day. Haru and Taji one day run into Izumi, who's being chased by three armed men. Soon the Secrets are dragged into protecting Izumi, as well as trying to avoid revealing their powers to a snooping reporter. And that's just half of it.
(Short pieces of the show have been subbed, like this one, but other than that here's a helpful report )

Treasure Box

Amanai Rin is a treasure hunter, just one rank below the coveted S-rank in the treasure recovery specialized company Braiant. Working with Hibino Shuuichi, his partner and fanboy, he's sent to the Amazon, after a fellow hunter by the name of Li stole his last mission. In the Amazon he meets Wanizuka, an old friends from his days before joining Braiant, as well as an aesthetically challenged ninja Randy (it's a code name), who's been sent to kill him. And that's just the beginning of all his troubles.
(Links to a very helpful summary: Part 1 & Part 2. Has a sequel called Wonder Box.)

Western Mode

Harry, Cress, Wanizuka and Avery are four actors who're down on their luck, as their Jesse James show isn't earning them too much money. But when the not too clever Ronnie recruits them, they think they've hit the jackpot - though a misunderstanding has Harry & co believing they're driving a rival theater group out of town, while what they're truly facing is the corrupt offical Albert and his second in command Coleman. Will the group survive? Or even realize how much trouble they're in?
(Helpful report here.)

Now, if that wasn't too overwhelming, have fun! And if you're still unsure if *pnish* is for you, you could always try watching something short and subbed - like the Host Club skit:
Part 1
Part 2
End dance

Also: Thank you wonderful *pnish*-fans who've subbed and summarized the shows! Without you, I'd have never gotten into *pnish* - all my gratitude to you awesome people :D
