Uhm, yes feeling slightly guilty as I stumbled upon these really awesome icons while just randomly clicking around lj. I of course credit their creator in the icon comments, but I wanted to tell her/him how great the icons are as well. Unfortunately only members could comment on the entry.

So, uhm, nochi_san if you ever should happen to stumbled upon this, I snagged these icons from your post here:

Spoony 4, 7, 13, 14, 16, 22, 37, 38 and 40

Nostalgia Chick 2, 10, 13 and 21

Linkara 1, 7 and 17

Nostalgia Critic 2, 4, 5 and 6.

Aheh, I actually feel a little bit creepy for having found this post. xD; But I'm glad you like the icons (and that you got the Izzard reference - I was beginning to have a sad over it). Thanks for the credit, as well!

Don't feel creepy, my entry has your name in it! (Though I am a bit curious about how you did it - was worried you wouldn't as I am a complete stranger on a the wast space of the Net). If anyone should feel creepy it should be me - posting this was based on it's-after-midnight-logic and at the time it somehow seemed less stalkerish than an out of the blue friend's request and joining the community proved to require some patience as the membership needed approval (which I completely understand - the Internet is way too full of trolls - but past midnight my patience fals asleep), so this is what I ended up doing.

Sorry, I rant a lot. The icons are awesome! As you might have noticed I stole a ton of them. And Izzard quotes are just icons waiting to be created! The few times I've managed to make some I've included Izzard lines in about 90% of them. Such is the power of stand-up. Yes.

It was through the My Guests feature - akicrack's been attracting the attention of some of the infamous Russian spambots lately, so I try to keep an eye on it, and since I didn't recognize your username I clicked on it. Past-midnight logic is completely forgivable. (Though I completely do not mind out-of-the-blue friends requests, as long as a comment is dropped on the F/O entry. :D)

He's usually too long-winded for me; I want to include the whole quote but IT DOESN'T STOP ARGH. xD;

Ah, that makes sense. Too bad about the spambots, hope they leave you alone soon.

So it'd be okay if I friended you? You make awesome icons and I've read a few of your fics and really liked them (not commented yet sorry, I read them over at tgwtg_fic). Though, as you seem to have more than one lj, I must admit to being a little confused as to which one I should friend...

Izzard quotes are a little tricky to work with because they get tangled up in each other, I agree. What I mostly do is take them out of context and force horrible, mutilating plastic surgery upon them, until they're hardly recognizable and just leave a comment by the icon about what they're supposed to me.

And then I laugh evilly. Yes.

Hmm, might actually apply for membership over at tgwtg_fic. There seems to be a lot of fun people and discussions over there.

Must admit to having been a bit hesitant about the fics at first (though I've been tempted to write some myself), as having the actors of the characters you write about stumble upon your work could get a bit awkward, so I've made do with simply making googly eyes at the community for a little while.

Though I made up my mind when I myself ended up basically having a semi-smutty fic featuring one of my role-playing characters read out loud to me by a neighbour who's been crushing on me for half a year or so. Complete with creepy giggling, shy "wink wink nudge nudge"-pauses and goofy/stalkerish grin.

So yeah, if I can sit through "My Sexual Fantasies About You" narrated and penned by a real life Shlumper-brother, I guess writing fic about online personas is harmless fun.

...see what I meant with the rant-warning? I do apologize, I just can't help myself.

It'd be totally okay if you friended me. :D This one's my personal LJ, so if you're into the fic and icons you might want to friend akicrack and choushininoru to avoid my general rantypants tendencies.

I think you just described icon-making in general. xD;

You should! We're awesome people. :D Though, while our moddess is a lovely, lovely lady, she's very busy with real life and takes a while to add people.

Actually...they have. xD Marzgurl tripped over us a while back, and told Linkara, but they've both given their blessing (Linkara even defended us at one point!), and Benzaie's even drawn fanart, so...yeah. Awkward at first, but once we finished panicking and trying to evacuate the internet en masse, it settled pretty nicely.

That is so creepy. D: I am having second-hand embarrassment for you. I'm so sorry.

It's fine, I'm much the same once I get started. xD

Avoid rants? But why would I want to do that? This is lj after all! Pushing the friending-button now.

Okay, applied for membership now, we'll see when and if I get accepted. Busy mods is nothing new to me (I'm one myself - which reminds me to feel guilty for the two rpgs I've left hanging for a week or two whilst I've been doing real life stuff *guilt*) so I'll try this patience thing I've heard people talk about.

Yeah I did see the Marzgurl and Linkara incident a while after it'd actually happened. I found tgwtg_fic through Bennett the Sage's Masterpiece Fanfic Theater, so I was very much aware of their knowledge of the fics. As I said, a little hesitant about it all even though they were such good sports, until Shlumper-impersonator decided that listing your fap-fantasies would be an excellent way to write a backstory for someone else's character.

It wasn't too bad an experience though, which is why I'm now more positive to writing tgwtg-fics. I got a decent backstory out of it (with a few major edits, aka switching my male "love interest" for a woman and making the relationship a little more equal + adding some treason angst and whatnot) and I think I managed to make my none-interest in him clear.

Having read fics since the age of twelve (ah, sweet youth!) with no Net-Nanny has desensitized me to basically everything embarrassing in this world it would seem, real life or no. I'm not sure it's a good thing, but it's too late to change that now :D

Hooray! :D

This may end up being really badly worded, but I'll go for it anyway: you may end up having to wait a touch longer than usual due to us having caught wind of potential troll shenanigans. The comm may be locked down for the next little while. Sorry. D:

Oh, Sage. Good to know we've gotten some positive exposure out of that. xD;

Hey, maybe he'll grow up to be another Insano and we can all get a little more confused trying to keep the timelines and universes straight. (I swear they make it more complicated on purpose now.)

Kids today with their net-nannies and parental blocks and their proxies...I remember when FF.N just made you click a button to prove you were 18! *waves cane*

Nonesane: Well I might be!nonesane on February 25th, 2010 12:39 am (UTC)
I saw the warning about troll-invasion-waiting-lines when I read through the rules and FAQ, so I was prepared for something like that. I'll just lurk for the time being and dream of the day I can comment and read friends-locked entries. Not to mention work on some fic of my own so I have something to contribute with!

I'm an avid watcher of the Masterpiece Fanfic Theater - bad!fics have never seemed so sophisticated before. And it also makes me not regret deleting all my 13-year-old-scribbles from FF.net. Though when he read the fic aunt_zelda wrote I did comment on the video to say that I thought it was stretching the term "bad!fic" a lot, since I found it to be very well written.

I get that the subject matter might have weirded him out a bit (getting killed off so early in the story must have been traumatizing! XD), but the plot and pairings of a fic, or RPF or furries or whatever it is one doesn't like really shouldn't be a basis for it to be "bad". The Internet is way too wast for that, not to mention 90% made for fun and not hurting anyone.

So while I think Sage and the people on the site are awesome and cool about the whole "our Internet-personas are in fics now", there are way too many trolls out there who need to lighten the fuck up!

Huh, but if he becomes Insano (a 2 meter tall Insano with a Russian accent at that) what would that make me? Spoonette? Well, I am a blond...

Oh to be back in the day when FF.net was 70% smut with no security whatsoever! Scouting the Net for new fandom archives. Logging off the Internet to read fic, so I wouldn't waste money by keeping the dial-up active. Waiting forever for pages to load...

Yeah, I think I like present day Internet a lot better. But nostalgia is so much fun :)

Aha. I...completely forgot that was in there. xD

I think that was the focus of it, was that it was more weird and possibly off-putting than bad, but a disclaimer saying as much would have been nice.

Nope, you'd still be you. Alternate universe! :D

Back when Geocities was cool...Angelfire and Tripod never worked...embedded music with no way to turn it off was apparently awesome...*wistful sigh*
Nonesane: Well I might be!nonesane on February 25th, 2010 11:41 pm (UTC)
Yes, it's very nice that there was a warning. And there are already a lot of fics linking to people's own journals, outside the community, that I can read and comment on - being a fic writer myself I always feel very guilty when I read something and don't leave some kind of feedback.

A disclaimer of some sort would have been nice, yes, but I guessed he just assumed people would be bright enough to get it (he really gives the Internet too much credit). But the only real criticism I remember him delivering was that he got killed off so damn early - most of the bashing was done in the comments.

And it still amuses me to no end that there was such outrage about the "gayness" of it, without a single mention of the Nostalgia Chick/Marzgurl pairing. 'Cause it's only creepy when two guys get together in a fic, right?

Ah yes, Alternative Universes, what a delight they are! (I'm a horrible AU-obsessive writer, about 90% of all the fics I write or plan to write are in some way or other AU.)

I'm actually a little sad about all the websites that have been lost. When a story on FF.net or in an lj-community is abandoned it's at least still there, but Geocities sites tend to disappear (and Angelfire and Tripod just never work to begin with).

I don't miss the embedded music. At all. I'm thinking about blaming those sites my tinnitus.
